NFL Playoffs
« on: January 09, 2006, 06:30:25 PM »
I know. Everyone at GS is either an artist, a foreigner, a woman, gay, or various combinations of those traits, but am I only one paying attention to the NFL playoffs? I can't help myself anymore. It's like crack. Besides, I had that whole "Hail to teh Redskins" thing beaten into me all my life, so I feel like life and death stakes are on the line.

Let's run down what we have coming:

Skins at Seahawks: I'm pulling for the Skins, but the offense only got 40 yards against TB this past weekend. Plus, Shaun Alexander is the league's MVP and Seattles offense is almost unstoppable. Still, the Skins'd D is ridiculously good. If the Skins offense catches back up to the defense, I think they'll pull it off.

Carolina at Chicago: Everybody's picking the Bears to win, but teh Panthers have been sodomizing teams left and right all year. Then again, I haven't paid much attention to the Bears, and I hear their defense is wicked. Even so, I'm going with Carolina.

Patriots at Broncos: New England has been to the SUper Bowl for the past two years so I'm pulling for Denver on principle. It's like the Yankees. You simply have to root against them.

Pittsburgh at Indianapolis (Or Native American-apolis): I'm pulling for the Steelers, but can the Colts really be stopped? Plus, I don't think Ben Rothlesberger (sp?) is the great quarterback he's cracked up to be, especially after coming back from his injuries.

What exactly do the WildCard games do?

I mean, TB Bucs one their division, so should be in the playoffs, no? Instead they lost in a WildCard match....

How come they weren't in the play offs?

See, Matt, I watched no college football this year

Monkey, American football, unlike the football the rest of the world plays, has rules that really make no god damned sense.

Wild Card breaks down like this: The NFL has two conferences (AFC and NFC) with four divisions each (East, West, North, and South). The eight division leaders automatically make it to the playoffs.

Each Conference has two "Wild Card" spots which the two teams with teh best records who didn't win their division snatch up. The two Wild Card teams play the divison leader with the worst record of the four divison leaders within the conference.

Through some mysterious mathematical equation that I don't understand myself, they decided Tampa Bay had the worst record even though they, the NY Giants, and Chicago all went 11 -5.

Hence, they played against a shitty Redskins offense and got booted from the playoffs.

That's gay.

I like the Bucs.

Chris Simms is shaping up nicely. Rumours of Terrell Owens heading to Tampa Bay in off season.

You should have. The Big 10 was fubar as Penn State cleaned house. The Rose Bowl was awesome. The Michigan and Iowa games were fucked up by the refs. There was some absolutely terrible reffing this year.

I loathe the Bucs and will never forgive them for that fat, obnoxious windbag Warren Sapp no matter how many years go by since he's been a Buc.  I was super glad to see them go.  Really, they should have lost that first game to Atlanta, but we just had a really shitty first quarter.  Otherwise, we totally dominated that game.

The Skins definitely have their work cut out for them, and I haven't really followed Seattle all that closely, but I think their defense is pretty weak.  If the Skins can contain their offense, they'll win.  I'm picking the Skins to win by 3.

Carolina's a ruthless fucking bitch.  They just rolled over us all year long.  They're really good.  I love the Bears and would really like to see them go all the way, but I don't think they've got the post-season chops to beat Carolina.  I pick Carolina to win by at least 7.

There's been a lot of hooplah about the Broncos and of all the teams, I'm least familiar with them and the Patriots.  But I do know that the Pats have won a shitload of football games in the last 3 years and they have one of the best QB's in the NFL, so that has to count for something.  By now they're playoff veterans, so that's working in their favor as well.  Pats win by 10.

The Steelers/Colts game will be the one to watch though.  Everyone and their uncle is pulling for the Colts I think.  At this point, America is just fucking sick of seeing Mannings choke at the helm of really talented teams.  In light of everything they've been through in the last couple years not to mention weeks, I think they really want this.  But the Steelers really surprised me.  I didn't think they'd get past Cinci and they did, so who knows what they've got up their sleeves.  I'll still pick the Colts by 7.

I am rooting for a Washington/Indianapolis Superbowl because that would be fucking RAD.  I'm sick of it being the "Annual Tom Brady Spankfest".  I also hope someone whips out some halftime tit again because that was FUCKING RAD.

All that said... I watch football when my rabbit ears decide to behave, so I'm in no way an authority on it.  I also have to admit that I really get pissy and disillusioned about following it if Atlanta's not involved... our day will come, I tell you...  OUR DAY WILL COME!  At least I have Madden 06 to completely warp reality.  My falcons just went 19-0 and sent half their roster to the Pro Bowl... furthermore, we beat the Browns in the Super Bowl.  That should give you some idea where my head's at.

I think I’d like it if Pittsburgh beat Indy and ruined the playoffs. That way, when it’s all over, everyone will say that it was a total fucking sham because the “best team” got knocked out in the Divisional round. And I’ll say something like, “If they were the best team, they wouldn’t have gotten knocked out.” And then they’d say something like, “Yeah, but…” And I’d quickly interrupt and say, “Yabbuts live in the forest.” And they’d get all pissed off and say something about my mother. And later I’d have sex with a couple of their wives.
No one stomps on a burning bag of shit anymore.

And with the 3rd turnover, they might just be back in this thing if they can score on this drive.

Holy shit, what a football game.

Okay, so I got one pick wrong... now for the rest.  Maybe I should just reverse everything.

I'm glad I missed the game. But you know, this Washington team was not a championship winner. The offensive performance has steadily declined.

So now it's Go Steelers! But I have a feeling that's going to disappont too.

Yep... well, I picked the Colts, so you've got that going for you.  I may suck at picking games, but I don't think even the Terry Bradshaw could have predicted that the Pats would give up a 101 yard interception.  Holy shit... I can't believe they're losing so badly to Denver!

I have no idea who's going to win tomorrow.  They'll be good games though.

I was rooting against the Pats so I was glad to see them fall. I'm not Denver is the team to beat Indianapolis though. In fact, I think the Steelers have a better chance than anybody. Again though, Can Indy really be beaten this year?

I thin the Carolina Chicago game has the potential to be the best game of the year. I'm jazzed for it.
