In other words...we don't want to do it.  But we will spew some rhetoric that is nonsensical because our president can do it and get away with it!

I'm relieved, actually. A prequel series obsessed with diverse, gay characters set in a universe opposed to the movies airing only on a backwater on demand channel. There was nothing about Discovery that (a) Made sense and (b) Sounded encouraging.

Quinto also said the other say that he's not sure Star Trek 4 will "ever happen."

Very Abrams. Feels more Star Wars than Star Trek, but that's the game now I guess.

Man...I've seen more convincing acting and writing in the fan series. That was weird and awkward.

The only "Star Wars" element is the very beginning, really, which is actually riffing Star Trek V.

So I present my Friday the 13th postulation: is bad Trek better than no Trek?

But...we aren't in a "no Trek" situation. We have the reboot movies going on. And after Into Darkness, and despite Beyond's efforts to ameliorate the situation, I think I can confidently say that no Trek IS better than bad Trek.

io9 is breaking down the trailer -- noting that the only ship we see is the Shenzou, which is interesting. No Discovery in the trailer for Discovery!

They're also vaguely worried about the half-Vulcan aspect of our lead (and potential familial link to Spock).

Half way through this trailer, I *almost* felt like the producers said, "Let's forget everything else that's come before and just tell Trek stories." With Rainn Wilson's Harry Mudd here, I know that's not the case, but let's hope they're brave enough to do their own thing here.

This is the "afraid to feature Michelle Yeoh's natural accent" trailer!

But it looks good. Very The Expanse, though. I mean...VERY.

Supposedly there are five new Star Trek shows in the pipeline... Hopefully one of them will be better than Discovery (which is quietly imploding on the showrunner level).

All are sequels or prequels, of course. No one dares to repeat the success of DS9 and Voyager, I guess. But, whatever... One of the prequels is an in-between years story about Khan (or maybe a 1990s origin story). This I could get behind, actually. We have a duology of books that follow Khan's life on Earth and then during the 15 year exile. I wouldn't mind seeing a younger Khan tame a broken planet.

Season 2 starts tonight. This is two months old, but I'm just realizing that they're bringing Spock in to it. Sad. Failing New York Times.

Yeah, I gave up long before the show became a crippled piece of fan fiction rushing to get the Enterprise crew involved as quickly as possible.
