“Is This the Big One?”

So...the sun is out. Nothing is happening. Nor is it expected to happen until tonight. However.... Maryland and Virginia declared a state of emergency, the District just implemented the "snow emergency plan" (no parking!), and we have our first school closing for tomorrow -- Garrett County.

Quote
“Just as state government is preparing for this storm, I urge every Virginian to take proper preparations,” McAuliffe said in a statement. “Prepare to limit unnecessary travel during the storm, have emergency supplies on hand and be ready in the event that power in your area goes out.”

O’Malley similarly warned residents to be ready for potential power outages owing to trees that could be brought down by the snow.

“It’s been a long winter for many Maryland families. … Once again we ask our residents to be prepared, avoid travel if at all possible, and remember to keep an eye on relatives, friends and neighbors.” O’Malley said in a statement.

Now I have to watch Dante's Peak tonight!

So Metro just cancelled all of their late night buses. Nice.

I suspect the "state of emergency" designation is partially to do with being able to write off snow days for the school systems.

There we go. School closings are rolling in...

OPM also said that they'll decide earlier than their standard 4am announcement.

Our kids had half day today, but parent teacher conferences are tonight. We have the last one of the evening at 7:20.

The teacher lives close though, so she doesn't mind.

AU closed the library early.

Meanwhile, I'm settled in to catch up on a ton of writing work.
