Two inches...and ice!  ooh...round two.

Fed govt was two hours delayed today.  I actually came into work at 10am because I haven't been doing shit for two days and THERE'S HELL TO PAY!  So this is my lunch half hour before I go back to work, then meander home around three or four before my read freezes.

Me, I live on a "tertiary road."  A dead end, on a hill, in a dripping and dark forest.  No plows, no salt, no nothing.  So everyone has to build up speed then hit the ice hill and ride the wave.  It's especially fun to be out of control when someone is coming down the hill in a sort of freefall.  A mile and a half away from the plowed road, that whole last leg is a nightmare.

Power went wonky last night when the big bad ice got on the exposed circa 1948 wires that power my circa 1948 neighborhood, so computers are best left sorta down.  I'm tired of computers, anyway.  I'm going to curl up with my heated blanket (because our house has a steam heat system that keeps it either at 90 degrees or 50, so I turn it off) and read...something.  Then I'll go to bed at nine, wake up screaming at 3am, get ready to go to my second job for 16 hours, cut my thighs and spend the next few weeks waiting for...round three!  When will DC collapse under the weight of a real snow?  Oh, bring me a week off!

heh, I remember your complaints about the power outtages.  I hope it doesn't get that bad anytime soon.

me, I live (this month) on a bus route but my car's tires turn into skids in the snow.  Need new tires but can't find anything that fits (195/55/R55).....  argh.  At least the roads and road crews have been good to me so far.

duh, R16.

sometimes I'm not sure whether or not I wish y'all were awake whilst I post.  (Yes, I mixed antiquated/British English with American Southern on purpose.)

Round three!  Wintry Mix Thursday.  Bets are out -- the younger employees say the day is doomed, the elder say that APA will sit tight this time.

Early closings:  All surrounding counties.

Ice in the evening.

Panic, fear, loathing.  HEated commuter debates on cold days.

Oh!  Staff walkout!  Snow-out in progress.  Four staff in my department have announced a 3pm departure.  Company policy is that they can do so, if they feel their commute is in danger.

Much wailing from the supervisors.  The wave begins.

Snowfall increases in strength.  I just cancelled my happy hour tonight...which is good because the happy hour last night has left me rubber limbed, and I have yet another happy hour tomorrow.  Funny that.

Danger? I don’t understand. It’s snow… not urine.

If we closed here every time it snowed, I’d be panhandling for my whiskey. Let’s see… we’ve received 6 inches (and counting) over the past 24 hours, with 6-8 more is expected by this time manyana. I’m going to drive around shopping for tropical fish tonight.

You guys just need to learn to slow down a bit. Smoke a few fatties.

If it snowed 12 inches here, we'd be out for two or three days.

The bed lounge was very cool.  Wish I had my camera.  We sat at a table until we noticed the little sunken lounge where you can spread out on cushions and everything.  No big nose, but our waitress was a fucking tight Uzbek.  Serious model quality...and perfect features.  20 yo pre-law.  Second gen. American  Body to die for.

People around here just don't know how to drive in bad waether. Roads get slick? Slow down a bit and don't tailgate. Ease off the multi-tasking and put down the friggin' iPod.

It's this culture of rushing we live in. Things change and we panic. Instead of slowing down and letting it pass we have to rushreallyfastsowecangetpastitassoonaspossibleorwe'llallDIE!

good point.  Now that you mention it I do think it's largely personality that keeps DC roads from being safe in snow.  Another chunk of it is inexperience, but it's the personality which seems to really make it dangerous.

I still have my worthless tires on the car.. I took a change of clothes in to work Thursday, in case I had to limp myself or my car to a nearby hotel.  Almost a disappointment when I didn't have to.

There it is!  They were calling for an inch of snow, and an "ICE STORM1!!!!!!1one" even though they were also saying it was going to be 92 degrees, and fajwat thought he'd be stranded at a hotel 15 miles from his house.  You are the god of half an inch of panic.  You could have just driven home at 15 miles an hour.  Nothing happens to you at 15 mph.  And, yes, that's because everyone else is checking into hotels that are three blocks from their houses because of THE STORM!
